About This Trip

Hampta Pass with Chandratal is a spectacular 5-day Himalayan adventure that begins in the lush green valleys of Manali and crosses into the rugged, high-altitude landscapes of Lahaul-Spiti. The trail winds through dense forests, alpine meadows, river crossings, and scenic campsites like Chika, Balu Ka Ghera, and Shea Goru before topping out at the majestic Hampta Pass (14,100 ft).

As you move from the vibrant Kullu Valley to the cold desert of Spiti, you witness a dramatic change in landscapes unlike any other trek. The journey is capped with a visit to the stunning Chandratal Lake — a high-altitude gem famous for its crystal-clear, ever-changing shades — a perfect finale to an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Day By Day

Your Journey

Day 01

Manali → Jobra → Chika (10,100 ft)

Arrive at the Manali base camp by 8:00 AM for a briefing with your trek leaders. Drive ~16 km from Manali to Jobra village, then trek ~3 km (about 2–3 hours) through pine forests, wooden bridges and giant granite boulders, past waterfalls and meadows, to the riverside Chika campsite. Dinner and overnight at Chika.

Day 02

Chika → Balu Ka Ghera (12,100 ft)

After breakfast, trek ~8 km along the right bank of the Hampta river, crossing mountain streams and rocky sections, through lush meadows with views of the snow-capped Dhauladhar range, to the camp at Balu Ka Ghera nestled among towering peaks.

Day 03

Summit Day · Balu Ka Ghera → Hampta Pass (14,100 ft) → Shea Goru

Start early for the big day — a 7–8 hour ascent to the 14,100 ft Hampta Pass, the highest point of the trek. Cross the pass and witness the dramatic transition from the green Kullu Valley to the barren beauty of Lahaul-Spiti, then descend steep trails to the scenic Shea Goru campsite. Dinner and overnight at Shea Goru.

Day 04

Shea Goru → Chatru · Chandratal & back

Descend ~3–4 hours through scenic valleys and rugged terrain with Pir Panjal Range views to Chatru. Drive to the magnificent Chandratal Lake (14,000 ft) — subject to road and weather — to explore its crystal-clear waters, then return to Chatru for the night.

Day 05

Chatru → Manali via Atal Tunnel

After breakfast, drive back to Manali via the Atal Tunnel (trek 8–9 km / drive ~12 km as conditions require), with scenic valley and river views along the way. Arrive in Manali by ~1:00 PM — free to explore Mall Road and celebrate the completion of your Hampta Pass adventure.

It's a moderate high-altitude trek topping out at 14,100 ft. If you can jog 3–4 km or climb 4–5 flights of stairs without burning out, you're set — we recommend about 3 weeks of light cardio beforehand.
Two packages are available: ₹6,500 includes Manali pick-up & drop transfers, all meals, tent stay, trekking gear, tolls & forest fees, first-aid and an expert guide. A ₹5,200 stay-only option (without transport) is also available. 5% GST is extra.
Cancellations 30+ days before the start: refund minus a 15% charge. Between 15–30 days: 50% refund. Less than 15 days before departure: no refund. Cancellations are accepted by email only.
Early-season batches (June) often have snow patches near the pass, which is part of the fun. Our guides provide support for any snow sections.
