About This Trip

Bir Billing is Asia's premier paragliding destination — the Billing launch site sits at 2,400m, and your tandem pilot takes you off the ridge and over the entire Kangra Valley spread below. The 20–30 minute flight ends at the landing zone in Bir's Tibetan Colony, a settlement of exile communities surrounded by gompas, prayer wheels, and pine forest. Most people want to go again immediately.

But this trip isn't just about the sky. Bir itself is a place worth slowing down for. We start with Activa rides through the colony's winding lanes at golden hour — past monks doing evening rounds, mani walls draped in prayer flags, and monasteries that have stood here since the 1960s. The evenings are bonfires, the mornings are quiet, and Day 3 gets even quieter.

Barot Valley is one of Himachal's most overlooked gems — 50km from Bir, the Uhl river runs cold and clear through dense deodar forests, and there's not a tourist trap in sight. Final group lunch by the water, then you head back to the noise of real life, a little more reluctant than usual.

Day 02

Billing Launch Site · Tandem Paragliding · Art Workshop

Early morning drive to the Billing launch site at 2,400m. After a safety briefing from your certified APPI-rated pilot, you run off the ridge — and suddenly the whole Kangra Valley is below you. The 20–30 minute flight ends at the landing zone in lower Bir. Afternoon: art workshop in a pine forest clearing — watercolour, sketching, journaling. No artistic experience required, just willingness. Group challenges and a full debrief of the day.

Day 03

Barot Valley · Uhl Riverside · Departure

Drive 50km to Barot Valley through mountain roads most tourists never take. Walk along the Uhl river — cold, fast, and bordered by enormous deodar trees. Optional visit to the trout hatchery, one of Himachal's oldest. Final group lunch by the water. Departure after lunch — most people are quiet on the drive back, and that's exactly right.

Common Questions

FAQs

None at all — all flights are tandem with a certified APPI-rated pilot who controls everything. You run a few steps off the launch ramp and the rest is just you and the sky. Billing hosted the Paragliding World Cup in 2015, so you're in good hands.
Weight must be between 25kg and 100kg for tandem paragliding. Minimum age is 7 years, maximum 70 years. Outside these limits, please contact us before booking — some exceptions are possible depending on the pilot's assessment.
Yes, this is one of our most beginner-friendly trips. No prior trekking or outdoor experience required. The paragliding is tandem, the Activa ride is flat terrain, and the Barot walk is a gentle riverside stroll. If you can walk for an hour, you're set.
Closed-toe shoes are mandatory — sneakers or trekking shoes, no slippers or sandals. Wear comfortable, non-loose clothing. We provide the full harness and helmet. Mornings at Billing are cool even in summer, so bring a light jacket for the drive up.
