Manali, Sissu, and Kasol are three places that end up on every Himachali bucket list — separately. Most people visit one at a time, rush another, or never quite get to all three. This trip strings them together in a route that actually makes geographic sense: south to north through Kullu, then through the Atal Tunnel into Lahaul, then back south through the Parvati Valley. Four days that cover more of Himachal's soul than most people see in a week.
Day 2 takes you through the Atal Tunnel — India's longest highway tunnel at 9.2km, boring through the Pir Panjal range and opening into Lahaul Valley at 3,100m. The other side is a different world: cold desert, grey-green slopes, Buddhist prayer flags, and Sissu's glacial lake sitting impossibly blue against the rock. We camp lakeside overnight. This is the kind of campsite people build entire trips around.
Kasol wraps it up the right way. The Parvati river moves fast and cold, the cafés are excellent, and there's an optional trek to Kheerganga — 12km through Parvati Valley forest to natural hot springs at 2,960m. Or you stay by the river. Both are correct answers.
